Planning a St Louis Wedding!

Planning a wedding can be a lot of work, it can also be a lot of fun!!! Most brides are on a budget and there are tips that you may not know about to help save money! Thats where I step in as your Wedding Planner. Here are some tips that may help you stay on budget.

1) Have a Friday Night Wedding…most venues will give you a discount for having your event on a Friday instead of a Saturday, ask if they offer any Friday Night discounts when you have your initial consultation.

2) Have a Winter Wedding…if you aren’t dead set on getting married during “Wedding Season”, Spring and Summer, then see if they offer any winter discounts.

3) Do it Yourself decor and center pieces. Get some bridesmaids together and make center pieces for your table and other decor for your wedding and reception sites. Just because they are “home-made” doesn’t mean they can’t be elegant!

Flower Girls…Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice!

I can not believe it has been a month since I have written! I have been so busy between birthday parties and going out of town that the weeks just flew by and before I knew it a whole month has gone by! So I have lots of wedding ideas to write about but I wanted to share an awesome website with you. Beane & Company by Jenna Lang! Jenna has the most gorgeous baby clothes and blankes and on her website is the most amazing flower girl dress. Flowers Girls are about the only person who can sort of steal the show away from the bride, haha! And in Jenna’s designs your flower girls are guaranteed to look their best. Now also part of my job as a Wedding Planner here in St. Louis is to help with as much as I can. Yellow, Yellow and More Yellow

What is it about yellow weddings that has me go crazy! I love the color yellow for weddings and I don’t see it enough!!! There is just something so bright and refreshing about yellow weddings and the creativity is limitless! My favorite idea for a wedding is an outside spring time wedding on a bright and sunny day, having some sort of lemon and daisy center piece for the tables, the girls in white and yellow dresses and bouquets and using the outside earthiness to add touches of green here and there. I just love the picture in my head =) Here are some great photos using the color yellow! It makes me want to get married again, hmm, maybe I’ll do a 10 year renewal of vows and go all out with the yellow!!!

Let’s Eat Cake

When a bride is planning her wedding one of the first things on her “To Do List” is to find a bakery for that magnificent cake that will be show cased in the middle of the reception hall for everyone to see. It not only has to look like a million bucks, but it has to taste like a million bucks, BUT does it have to cost a million buck? One of the newest trends right now in the wedding scene is investing in a “FAKE CAKE”. Yes, thats right a fake cake! These cakes are made out of styrofoam and are decorated to look exactly like a real wedding cake. These fake cakes are hundreds of dollars cheaper and give you the same WOW factor that you want your cake to give off. Now of course while this fake cake is on display for everyone to ooh and aah over, a real cake (most likely a regular sheet cake) is cut up in the back and served to your guest. Pretty neat huh! Here are some pictures of the up and coming “Fake Cakes”! They sure look delicious!!!

Weddings…Is it what you imagined?!?

How do people ever go about picking wedding colors and the entire theme of their wedding? Most people, I would assume, pick their favorite colors, favorite time of the year, etc. However, that leaves me to wonder, how many people actually do this. I know for myself I didn’t! Which is very odd, haha! My all time favorite color is pink. Now I know pink is a very popular color at the moment, but honestly, it has been my favorite since I was little. I always dreamed of my wedding in May or June with pink dresses, pink flowers, pink bows, pink EVERYTHING…in fact I use to tease my Mother and Sisters and tell them “My colors are blush and bashful Mamma”, for all who don’t know the line…its from Steel Magnolias. Needless to say when I got engaged in December of 2005 everyone assumed I would have a very pink wedding! I think I shocked everyone when I picked Royal Blue and Gold. I sometimes even wonder where that came from! However at the time it felt right.

I was getting married in December of the following year and something just didn’t sound right about having pink dresses and flowers in December, especially around Christmas Time. We got married December 29, 2006 and while we didn’t have a “Christmasy Wedding” I still thought darker colors would be more appropriate. I ended up with Royal Blue satin dresses with Gold Sashes that hung to the floor. My bouquet was 2 dozen white roses with diamonds throughout for an extra hint of sprakle and shine, my bridesmaids flowers were a mix of white roses and pink roses which ended up looking fabulous, it was a great contrasting mix against the dark dresses. As center pieces I had 3 small vases all ranging in different sizes with floating candles and along the outside of them I had blue and gold ornaments with “Jay and Robin, December 29, 2006″ inscribed on the outside. Our entire reception hall was filled with candles (which my nephew Aidan ended up blowing out half of them, haha, so much for my ambiance!!!) and our tables and chairs were draped with white linens and white sashes. NO PINK, except for the tiny specks of pink in the bridesmaids bouquets.

I loved everything about my weddings, the colors, the mood, everything! I just sometimes still surprise myself that I had such a different wedding than I ever imagined, hardly any pink, and it was in the middle of WINTER!!! You may even wonder, why did I choose December in the first place? Well it really is kind of a sweet story. I met my “hubby” and we started dating in October of 2004, immediately I knew he was “different”, On Christmas Day 2004 he told me for the first time that he loved me. That next Christmas we got engaged and so I only felt it would be right to have our wedding around Christmas. So we did!

I guess what I’m trying to get at is, I had this dream of what my wedding was going to be like and it ended up being completely different than anything I could have imagined and I loved every little detail. Don’t be afraid to stray away from your original “ideas and dreams” you might surprise yourself and go beyond what you could have ever hoped and imagined!

Now as I am a Wedding Planner in St. Louis, I really can’t wait to see others whose dreams may go a completely different direction than what they have dreamed of since the age of 5!

FALL into St. Louis Weddings

Nothing is more beautiful than a St. Louis Autumn Day! Am I wrong? I didn’t think so! The crisp fresh air that seems to engage your senses. The way the cool air smells when you walk outside. The burst of orange, red, gold and yellow through-out the city. Everything about Autumn in St. Louis is absolutely beautiful! Why not make it even more beautiful and hold a wedding in the Fall.

My favorite colors for a fall wedding in St. Louis are golds, oranges and deep reds. Imagine standing in Forest Park, the colors of the trees just bursting with red, orange and gold against the clear blue sky. You in your white dress, your bridesmaids in deep brown colored dresses with bouquets of dark red roses, golden calla lillies and just a few white peonies to tie into you. Just breath-taking isn’t it.

Some brides tend to shy away from fall weddings, afraid of the darker colors (everyone seems to want pinks, blues, yellows) but I say living in St. Louis, embrace it! Embrace the amazing Fall Season and use the gorgeous colors to your advantage. Imagine your pictures and how gorgeous they would be. And the best part is, you won’t be sweating your make-up off while taking pictures like some of the June Brides =)
